The brief
Expanding a wellness retreat beyond weight loss
When Homefield Grange approached us, the business was known primarily for weight loss and detox programmes. The brand was confident but narrowly framed, centred almost entirely on physical outcomes.
Yet beneath this sat something deeper. A belief that health is not simply about reduction, but restoration. Not only the body, but the nervous system, the mind and the emotional landscape.
The opportunity was not to add a spa. It was to broaden the definition of wellbeing.
Repositioning the retreat
Before any design work began, we stepped back and examined the deeper question. What does long term health actually mean for this business?
We recognised the intrinsic relationship between physical health, movement, mental clarity and restorative environments. Rather than simply adding a spa, we helped reposition Homefield Grange as a holistic wellness retreat. This early stage thinking formed part of a wider spa consultancy and strategic planning approach, aligning brand, guest experience and long-term direction.
The new brand narrative embraced:
- Mindful movement and somatic practices
- Nutritional education and sustainable dietary change
- Emotional and psychological support
- Contrast therapy and thermal bathing
- Detox and weight loss presented in a more mature, considered way
The shift allowed the retreat to feel more rounded, less prescriptive, and ultimately more supportive of lasting change.
A considered evolution
This project reflects how spa design for wellness retreats can shape not only the physical environment, but the long-term direction of a wellness business.
- Seamless integration of a full thermal spa within an established retreat setting
- Evolution from a weight loss-focused offer into a more complete, health-led wellness destination
- Continued revenue during Covid through the introduction of at-home programmes
- Extension into retail and publishing, expanding the brand beyond the physical retreat
- Strategic repositioning in response to changing market conditions
- Introduction of a more flexible model, including day spa, corporate and private hire
- Ongoing consultancy partnership supporting multiple phases of growth
Homefield Grange now operates with greater clarity, flexibility and resilience. The project demonstrates how considered spa design, combined with long-term thinking, can support both meaningful guest experiences and sustained commercial success
